Second Annual Bucket List :)

Last year, I decided to post a bucket list of sorts… (not my bucket list for life, but for the year)

I had fun putting it together. So, I figured I’d do it again for 2014.

I’m not going to recycle any items (I’ll eventually go on a picnic!) , I’m just going to start fresh… so here it is:

1.    Complete my 10K run in an hour.

2.    Go to a cigar bar.

3.    Visit the Empire State Building.

4.    Ride a bike over the Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, SC

5.    See the Grand Canyon.

6.    Submit a research grant proposal.

7.    Complete a class on Coursera.

8.    Have afternoon tea.

9.    Read the Bible. The whole thing, not just certain sections.

10.    Use my passport.

I’ll naturally keep you all posted 🙂

So long, 2013!

Well, this year flew by…. seriously.

I haven’t posted since June. eek! (btw, the screenplay is still in the works!)

I looked back at my bucket list post — and I did a pretty good job of keeping up with my promises 🙂

Definitely doing this again for 2014!

Let’s recap:

1. Lose at least 25 lbs. The more the better.

Lost about 10 lbs, not great. But, I’m making moves for 2014…

2. Visit a different museum every month, and then post pics on my blog.

Totally failed on this one… oops. But, I made some of my own art , or at least I tried… 🙂

And while it’s not a museum, I can scratch AT&T Park off my list of baseball stadiums to visit:

3. Go to Canada. Montreal to be exact.

I went to Canada. But not Montreal. Here’s my lovely pic of me and the Falls :

4. Ride a mechanical bull.

This happened. Evidence:

5. Try at least three different whiskeys that I’ve never had before.

Ha! This was accomplished within the first few months., and this whiskey flight is the reason:

6. Buy flowers for myself more often.

Sorta did this.. here are some of the lovely begonias I bought myself

7. Learn how to say “I Love You” in 20 languages (I’m a dork, I know!)

This sounded easier than I thought. But, I did learn more Tagalog by writing this lovely ode to Balut:

8. Discover new music.

Yes. Country music!  Yep… click the pic… it’s my favorite Jake Owen song 🙂

9. Have a picnic in the park.

Nope. I don’t know why.  I’ll just post my last minute Halloween costume to feel accomplished 🙂

10.  Eat a burger from the following places: Minetta Tavern and White Manna

Yes and Yes. Drool-worthy pics below:

bonus: take my learner’s permit test again…(it expired when I was 23) — baby steps to getting a license.

Still working on this… of course.

Stay tuned for my 2014 bucket list 🙂

Have a wonderful New Year!

This screenplay isn’t going to write itself…

I let it be known that one of my dreams is to win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Sure, it’s a long-shot. But, I have to actually write one before I knock my dreams. 😉

On Sunday, I went to see this wonderfully inspiring musical play, Neon Baby, at Pregones Theater, in the Boogie Down Bronx. I realized on the train ride home that I need to write. This was especially clear after I was retelling one of my stories to my friends and a random guy on the train started laughing from overhearing my story. It appears I have an audience.

Another source of inspiration besides that play, I’ve been watching Oprah’s Master Class. I’ve been gathering these quotes from each episode to motivate me. This week featured Lenny Kravitz. I may love him a little after seeing that episode.

And, this book has really made me realize that I can do it, lots of practical advice, highly recommend:

Foolish Attempt @ Mechanical Bull Riding

Scratch it off the bucket list, I rode a mechanical bull last night at Johnny Utah’s. Who knew this place existed?  My dear friend, Jenn, accompanied me… we both rode the bull, but she was smart enough to record me making a fool of myself. 🙂

Check out the video below for good laughs, and yes, I need to invest in a belt!! 🙂

Bucket List Checkpoint!

It is already May 3rd. The first four months of 2013 went by entirely too fast!

I figured I’d do an update on my bucket list: https://mstinamarie.wordpress.com/2013/02/05/first-annual-bucket-list/

I completed one of my items… I have tried six new whiskeys, totally low balled on that! I’m just getting started.

Here’s a pic of three of them on Instagram.  — my favorite: Four Roses. It truly felt like it hugged my heart!

Ahead with my whiskey, but behind on the museums, I only went to two museums (EMP Museum and Museum of the American Gangster) — if I wrote a blog about them, it would have been titled Gangsters and Grunge.

Thanks to my weekly detox baths and streaming music from Pandora Radio, I discovered A Fine Frenzy. Another musical gem I discovered via a friend: Chelsea Wolfe. Definitely different styles, but both hauntingly beautiful in a way.

And, before May 19th (thanks Living Social) —

I will ride a mechanical bull at Johnny Utah’s. Coincidentally right before my birthday on May 20th… hopefully, I don’t hurt myself before my 32nd (eek!) birthday.

Stay tuned!

Getting into Library Politics aka Why I’m running for a ALA NMRT Board Position.

I’m running for the Leadership Development Director position of the American Library Association’s New Members Roundtable (ALA NMRT) Executive Board.

I am going to use this post to tell you why… you may have already seen my candidate video here.

Also, the Asian Pacific American Library Association (APALA) did a member highlight on me this month, and I must say it pretty much sums me up, check it out here

So, why I am running for this position, and more importantly, why you should vote for me, and why I am stepping into the world of library politics: I want to get stuff done.

I want to get involved in NMRT to implement new ideas for leadership development. I want to help foster new vendor and library partnerships for awards and scholarships. I want to make sure that NMRT is doing all it can to create programming ideas that will nurture new and emerging leaders in the profession alike.

I’ll end with this quote by Shirley Chisholm.

You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.

Thanks for stopping by.
